ABOUT ME

My name is Sol Rowland and I am based in Sheffield, England. I am currently in my third year at Sheffield Hallam University studying animation. Ever since I was young, I have always been a creative person. I’ve been a passionate artist since I started school and this has continued to this day. During covid quarantine, I set up my own small art business on Etsy called ToucanTeeth where I sell prints, cards and stickers. Studying animation has been very interesting and I have loved being able to create my own film. Moreover, after falling in love with the wider field of film during my studies, I have decided that I would like to pursue a career related to that. I’m planning to study video editing at Masters level after I graduate.

My film is called What We Could Lose and is a 2D rotoscoped animation about lions. I chose to rotoscope my film as I’ve always loved the effect that it creates and thought that it would help to keep my film focused on realism and the real-world issues that I address. Throughout my life, I’ve always been fascinated by animals and the natural world so I knew that I wanted to do my final film based around that. I also thought it would be good to use this opportunity to spread information about a more lesser known environmentalist plight of one of my favourite animals.
